DHAKA: Rafael Nadal is through the US Open quarter-finals after an impressive win over Marin Cilic.

Nadal stamped his authority on the match early on by breaking Cilic to lead 3-1 but although the Croatian hit back straight away, the second seed broke again to lead 4-2 and he went on to take the set 6-3.

But just went it seemed Nadal would stroll to victory, Cilic elevated his level in the second set to stun the three-time champion and level the match.

However, that only seemed to inspire Nadal into producing an even higher level and in front of the watching Tiger Woods, the Spanish star blasted his way past Cilic in the final two sets to win the match 6-3 3-6 6-1 6-2
