Few knew of a 29 years old person named Varun of Karnataka. He had Vini, Vici, Vidi appearance at IPL 2020 for KKR against DC yesterday. He alone teased and tormented strong DC batting winning the match single-handed by 59 runs taking 5 wickets for 20 runs with his leg spin. Batting first KKR posted an impressive 194/6 ridding on a brilliant 115 runs 4th wicket partnership between N Rana (81) and SP Narin (64). Varun rocking DC got them squeezed to 135 /9 earning a huge win by 59 runs. DC stays at second and KKR remains at 4th of the point’s table.

Two South African speed merchants Rabada (2/33) and Nortze (2/27) kept KKR under control in the early part of their innings. At 3/42 in the 8th over the match was wide open till Rana and Narin stitched together a match winning 115 runs impressive partnership in 9 overs. Rana scored 81 in 53 deliveries striking 13 fours and a six. Narin’s 64 in 32 balls contained 6 fours and 4 sixes. This partnership laid the foundation for a steep 195 target for DC, which they stumbled getting across.

Aussie fast bowlers (the most expensive IPL 2020 recruit) rocked DC with deadly early blows. Rahane and Dhawan were sent back almost for nothing within the first three overs. Two youngsters Iyer (47) and Pant (27) were on a repairing mission till an unknown assailant Varun with his leg spin appeared.  His magical spell (5/20) in no time mesmerized DC. From 3/76 DC found themselves perspiring at 7/132 in no time. By the time DC’s quota was over they could reach 135/9 still 59 run short.  The win kept KKR at number 4, in the point’s table, with KKIP breathing on their neck. However, DC losing winning momentum needs getting it back as soon as possible.
 
IPL 2020 demonstrated why quality leg spinners are a must for any format. They win matches in any format at any time. Teams must nourish them with great care.
