Two smart international captains cool Ken Williamson of New Zealand and Jason Holder of West Indies keeping their nerves in piloting SRH to a great win against RCB in keenly contested low scoring eliminator.
SRH earned a date with DC for working out a spot in the final of Dream 11 IPL 2020. On a slow low gripping wicket RCB posted a below par 131/5 batting first. But smart RCB bowling and fielding took the match deep requiring Williamson and Holder batting with their skins out for earning a very satisfying victory. SRH sent favorites RCB home. They will now play against DC in search of a place in the final.
Winning the toss and feeling the slowness of the wicket Warner put RCB to bat. Jason Holder bowling smartly got two early break through removing captain Kohli (6) and inform Padikkai within the first three overs. RCB could not recover from the early shock as SRH bowlers bowled consistently on the right length and line. Flinch and AB de Villiers applied for a while. But Shahbaj Nadeem pricing out Flinch (32) left ABD alone plough in the sand.
Natarajan (2/33) , Rashid Khan ( 0/22) bowled so tight that even ABD could take little liberty. His was the lone struggle and none could give him company. His 56 of 43 deliveries could take RCB to 132/4 which in a knock out match of nerve was at least 20 runs too less . Jason Holder (3/25) was the pick of the SRH bowling.
It appeared that SRH would cruise to victory at innings break. Credit must go to RCB that they took the match deep. Kohli had option for using four spinners Washington Sunder, YS Chahal, Adam Zampa and Moeen Ali on the slow wicket. . Instead he used SIraj and Saini upfront. The injury to W Saha forced SRH opt for Goswami opening the innings with Warner. Siraj removed Goswami for naught. Warner and Pandey started setting about their task. But Siraj also removing dangerous Warner (17) created a jolt in SRH innings. Kohli introduced Zampa and Chahal. Two wrist spinners dried up runs forcing Pandey taking chances as run rate kept creeping. Zampa getting Pandey (24) caught behind.
SRH was lucky to have two very cool and level headed international cricketer, two international captains Kane Williamson and Jason Holder together at a very critical make or break situation. Great bowling of Chahal (1/24), Zampa (1/12) and Sunder (0/21) could not unnerve them. Williamson (50*) and Holder (24*) won the match for SRH producing unfinished 65 runs 5th wicket partnership. Holder struck two glorious boundaries in the last over of young Saini to hop across the victory target letting Sun shining for Hyderabad.
SRH will now meet with DC in another eliminator seeking a place in the final against reigning champions MI. RCB did not look like the team bound for the big occasion in any case this year. Kohli was not at his brilliant best. ABD delivered. But the team excepting Padikkai did not bat well and bowling was not consistent.
