Bangabandhu ODI Series

Player Of The Match: Mehedy Hasan Meraj.

As forecasted by many favorite Bangladesh winning the second ODI against weakened West Indies by 7 wickets wrapped up the series 2-0. They look like gaining yet another series whitewash of ODI series at home.

The weather was far better, sun was seen for a while and wicket played lot more easily. Yet weakened WI looked hopeless and helpless while batting against top quality Bangladesh attack. Mehedy (4/25), Mustafiz (2/15) and Shakib (2/30) castled tourist yet again. WI could post 148 all out in 43.4 Overs . With patient 50 by Captain Tamim, great looking unbeaten 43 by Shakib Bangladesh cruised to easy victory and wrapped up the series 2-0 with one match to play. Another Banglawash is now looming large. Ill equipped touring team cannot look unmatched with strong Bangladesh hungry for success. However, the real strength of Bangladesh cannot be judged from such win. Yet good form of top players augers well for Bangladesh.

West Indies Captain winning the toss elected to bat. The drift and accuracy of Mehedy Miraj and swing of Mustafiz was too hot to handle for the tourists. Add to that uncanny brilliance of Shakib. West Indies had no answer. West Indies could master only 148. Only Powell (41), debutant Ottley (24) and Bonner (20) could resist a bit. Mehedy (4/25), Mustafiz (2/15) and Shakib (2/30) castled the Caribbean.

Batting smartly in response Bangladesh made cakewalk winning easily by 7 wickets. Tamim scored a patient 50 in 76 deliveries, Shakib was looking great in his unbeaten 43. For the second match in succession West Indies batsmen failed to provide enough runs for Akeal Hosein and co trying to defend. With the series already lost tourists are set to absorb the ignominy of a series white wash. Bangladesh earned another 10 points from the win.

Bangladesh should try its bench strength in the third match letting Shoriful and Saifuddin a match. Strategy of   Playing Nazmul Shanto ahead of Shakib did not work as expected even yesterday. With Shakib not available for ensuing New Zealand tour Bangladesh has to try new number three. Soumya can be ideal alternative with Mahmudullah batting at four. That was the batting order in the successful 2015 ICC World Cup.
