West Indies Need 285 Runs on Day Five, Bangladesh Need 7 Wickets.
Brilliant 115 by Bangladesh Little Bird Mominul on a difficult wicket (his 10 th Test Century and 7th In Chattogram) and impressive 69 by Liton Das helped Bangladesh setting a difficult task of scoring 395 in over 4 sessions for West Indies.
Bangladesh declared at 223/8. West Indies finished day four at 110/3 with Impressive all the way Mehedy Miraj taking all three wickets giving away 52 Runs. All three results possible in the test – probable Bangladesh win, West Indies battling out a draw or less likely winning. With no demons at the wicket and Bangladesh handicapped with Shakib not available through injury and Mustafiz under warning for running into danger zone a fascinating 5th days play awaits for cricket lovers around the world.
The outstanding feature of the day was definitely brilliant century by Mominul Haq leading from the front on his happy hunting ground. With 10 test centuries all at home he now is the highest test century maker for Bangladesh. Seven of the ten centuries have been scored at Chattogram. Wicket was not easy and all West Indies bowlers bowled exceptionally well. Had not Mominul applied himself and with Liton produced 123 runs for the 5th Wicket Bangladesh could be dire state. Liton also produced impressive 69 runs. Shakib was unavailable to bat. 6 batsmen could not even reach double figures.
No praise would be enough for Mominul. There is a notion that he has weakness against short bowling of genuine pacers. Though the wicket lacked bounce and pace Gabriel consistently aimed at his rib cage. Rakheem and Warrican turned and exploited the roughness of the wicket. His 115 put Bangladesh firmly in control.
Bangladesh declared scoring 223/8 setting a target of 385 for West Indies in over four sessions. Many said 300 would be enough. West Indies battled out day four reaching 110/3.With Bangladesh virtually having three and a half bowlers and West Indies requiring another 285 odds are still in favor of Bangladesh.
But in West Indies second Innings none but Mehedy Miraj looked like getting wickets. Mustafiz getting a warning for running on to the wicket cannot get close to the wicket for teasing right-handed batsmen with his new weapon in swingers. We all know Shakib cannot bowl. Stage is set for a dramatic finish.
Bangladesh rarely plays a test going deep to fifth day. Three bowlers will have to bowl long spells unless West Indies collapses. Till now WI batsmen demonstrated resolve with never say die attitude. Admirers get ready for a mouth-watering contest tomorrow.
Mehedy Miraj scoring Century in the first innings and 7 wickets so far would enter history if he manages 3 more wickets. If he does, he will achieve 100 wickets in his 23rd test. If West Indies wins that will be a huge achievement.
