KKR 133/9 in 20 overs (Rahul Tripathi 36, Dinesh Karthik 25, Nitish Rana 22, Chris Morris 4/23, Mustafiz 1/ 22, Jaidev Unadkat 1/25)
RR Won By 6 Wickets: Chris Morris
Fancied team of KKR is running into red zone. With 5 match out of the 7 in the first round done and dusted they sunk to the rock bottom of the table losing big by 6 wicket against RR yesterday at Mumbai. Batting first they huffed and puffed in scoring 133/9 in their allotted overs. RR cantered past scoring 134/4 in 18.5 Overs. RR winning by 6 wickets moved up to 6th position in the ladder.
KKR appears to have genuine problem in their top and middle order batting. Gill and Morgan particularly did very little. Playing Narine in place of Sakib proved counter productive. Bowlers can do nothing unless batsmen give them enough runs to defend. Captain Morgan needs to rest for few matches for trying some other options. Sakib must be brought back. Yesterday again Morgan (0), Gill (11) Narine (6) and Russel (9) failed. Tripathi (36), Karthik (25) and Nitish Rana (22) tried their best. But all they could do was scoring 133/9, which was at least 30 runs too less than what could be a competitive score. Chris Morris taking 4 wickets for 23 runs was the most successful bowler. Mustafiz also bowled tight taking 1 for 22 runs.
Chasing and overhauling 133 on not too difficult wicket of Mumbai appeared a cakewalk for RR. Their batsmen grabbed the opportunity with both hands. Captain Sanju Samson (42*) and another Protean David Miller (24* led the charge earning a 6 wickets victory. With RCB, CSK, DC, MI, PBKS, RR fighting for business session KKR must reassess their options before it gets too late. I do not think they have right combination. There is no point sticking with non performing players even if he is the captain.
