Bangladesh 84 All Out In 18.2 Overs (Mahedi Hasan 29, Liton K Das 24, Shamim Hossain 11, Anrich Nortje 3/8, Kagiso Rabada 2/15, Tabriz Shamsi 2/21)
South Africa Won By 6 Wickets
Player Of The Match: Anrich Norje

The nightmare of Bangladesh in T20 World Cup continued as they were dealt with another big blow by South Africa in an encounter, which Bangladesh was expected playing for the pride.

They lost by 6 wickets having been dismissed scoring only 84. Cricinfo rightly articulated that Bangladesh looked like homesick children after a long school outing. Abu Dhabi wicket had pace, bounce and seam movement. South Africa had crafty operators in Nortje and Rabada.

The incompetence of Bangladesh playing against quality pace attack on unfamiliar juice wicket was proved yet again. Inserted into bat they could post only 84 batting for 18.2 overs. South Africa required winning and winning big. However, Bangladeshi bowlers also exploiting the wicket led them wit till 13.3 overs. Protean scoring 86/4 won. They brightened their prospect of qualification.

Having lost the first three matches on the trot Bangladesh had their back to the wall. Usually, teams bounce back in such state with nothing at stake.  But Bangladesh appeared as disheartened unit. They had to deal with Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Dwaine Pretorius on a wicket having seam movement and steep bounce.

At 45/6 Bangladesh had the risk of crumbling to the lowest score of tournament (55 of West Indies against England) and their own 70 all out from the 2016 T20 World Cup. Naim, Mushfique Mahmudullah and Afif looked pretty ordinary as they perished. The manner Bangladesh batted evidenced that they were the worst of the 12 teams of the super 12. Liton tried to battle out and Mahedy playing some brave strokes towards the end rescued Bangladesh from the lowest score of the tournament,

Bangladesh team management read the wickets wrong. On such a wicket-assisting seam they should not have replaced Mustafiz. Even if they did Rubel should have been there. Yet Taskin and co kept South Africa in control till 13.3 overs in overhauling the target. Winning by 6 wickets South Africa kept them alive in the race for semi finals.

Bangladesh planned wrong for the world cup. Their preparation leading up to the tournament was not appropriate. Taking 7 new players in a global tournament (All other teams have experienced T20 specialists) was not proper. Bangladesh did not enough reserve players to fall back upon when Shakib, Saifuddin and Sohan got injured and unfit. The squad did not have quality batsmen in the reserve.

Bangladesh Selectors and Coaching Staff made repeated mistakes. The logical conclusion was Bangladesh crashing out. Bangladesh is not a team playing such a poor cricket throughout a tournament. The cry for overhauling the team management, appearing with some fresh legs in the ensuing bilateral series against Pakistan would get momentum.
