Padma Bridge Test Series
West Indies VS Bangladesh 2nd Test
Played at Daren Sami Stadium St Vincent From 25-29 June 2022
Bangladesh 1st Innings All Out 234 In 64.2 Overs (Litton Kumar Das 53, Tamim Iqbal 46, Shoriful Islam 26, Nazmul Hasan Shanto 26, Anamul Haq Bijoy 23, Ebadat Hossain 21*, Aljarri Joseph 3/50, Jayden Seales 3/53, Anderson Philip 2/30, Kayle Mayers 2/35)
West Indies 1st Innings 67/0 in 16 Overs (Kraigg Braithwaite 32*, John Campbell 30*)
West Indies trails by 167 runs with all 10 first innings wickets at hand

Bangladesh batted with much more courage and commitment not necessarily with required patience for test match though. Yet 234 in the first innings having been asked to bat on a wicket having variable bounce is not too less. At stumps home team comfortably reached 67 without losing any wicket. Batting of two teams on the same surface once again proved that Bangladesh now depleted to bottom low in test cricket.

West Indies won the toss and elected to field once again. The wicket had patchy grass cover having some cracks. Khemar Roach was keen for his milestone 250 wickets. West Indies awarded test cap to yet another pacer Anderson Philip resting Gurukesh Mote. Bangladesh made two changes. Experienced Anamul Haq returned to Bangladesh color after a few years replacing out of form former captain Mominul Haq, Shoriful Islam flown in urgently replaced Mustafizur Rahman.

Tamim survived a confident LBW call on umpires call early. But with balls coming to the bat quickly he played some delightful strokes. Joy was not so comfortable on the other end. Debutant Philip got him early with a beautiful in swinger with his very second ball. Tamim and Shanto were batting comfortably. Runs were coming mostly in boundaries. Tamim however trying to strike one too many boundaries threw away his wicket at 46. A great start was wasted again. Bangladesh went to lunch at 71/2.

Shanto and Bijoy were looking good till both Bijoy and Shanto perished LBW on umpires call. Suddenly Bangladesh slumped to 105/2. The situation required captain Shakib bat with discretion. But him, Sohan and Miraj showing gay cavalier attitude left one after another. Bangladesh at 165/7 was looking down the barrel. Litton batting well was running out of partners. His 53 elevated score to 8/191. Shoriful and Ebadat knowing their limitation savagely counter attacked adding precious 36 runs in 30 overs. 234 runs in the first over looked not too bad for the wicket and circumstance. 39 fours in the innings according to the West Indian commentators were way too many.

West Indies openers looked far more comfortable in their response. Both Braithwaite and Campbell batted positively. 67 runs in 16 overs of red-hot cherry responding to 234 is definitely a day won. West Indies still 167 runs behind. Lot of cricket still left in the match. I think Anderson Philipp had a great debut.
