DHAKA: Information minister Hasanul Haque Inu said computer education will be made compulsory in secondary levels of the schools from next year.

He came up with disclosure on Wednesday noon at a seven-day computer and mobile fair in Eastern Plus Shopping Centre in city’s Shantinagar area.

The minister said people without computer education will not be eligible to apply for government jobs of any grade.

If we cannot earn knowledge on information technology we will not be able to step with the pace of world development, he added.

Numbers of people, who are buying computers, are increasing day by day. The incumbent government, under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, has taken a challenge of building Digital Bangladesh by 2021, he added.

The seven-day fair is jointly organized by Eastern Plus Shopping Centre, Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) and Laptop Bazar.
