Country’s first-ever ‘OCR’ launched

DHAKA: Team Engine Limited has brought the first ever locally-made Optical Character Recognizer (OCR) to store, find and make editable all digital contents written in Bangla language.

This software can read all hand written, typed and printed contents in Bangla language, identify alphabets in the picture and make a printed page digital and editable within four seconds.

Finance Minister Aabul Maaal Abdul Muhith unveiled the software at a function in the CIRDAP auditorium in the city on Friday.

Addressing as the chief guest, Muhith said, “The youths are taking the flag of digital Bangladesh forward, which has been advanced by creating the OCR.”

Zunaid Ahmed Palak, speaking as the special guest, said, “Bangladesh is at 37th out of 194 countries of the world, where a complete OCR was innovated.”

Presided over by Team Engine managing director Samira Zuberi Himika, formaer president of Bangladesh Computer Samity and ICT personality Mustafa Jabbar, and Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services senior vice president Russell T Ahmed, among others, spoke at the function.
