DHAKA: Hot on the heels of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple is reportedly planning to unveil updated versions of its iPad and iPad Mini on October 21.

A person familiar with the company's plans told Apple Insider that internal deadlines have been set for mid-October, ahead of the planned unveiling of new products during the second half of the month, reports The Telegraph.

Meanwhile, The Daily Dot reports a specific date of 21 October, citing "sources familiar with the matter".

This would follow last year's pattern, which saw Apple unveil the iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina display at a media event on 22 October, before the devices went on sale to consumers in early November.

Rumours suggest the new iPads will feature Apple's secure Touch ID fingerprint sensor, and boast the same A8 processor found in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

It is also thought that Apple might use its October event to launch OS X Yosemite – the latest version of its Mac operating system. Yosemite will integrate closely with Apple iOS 8.

New MacBook Air laptops with Retina display could also be on the cards, along with an update for Apple TV.
