‘No more Facebook, Twitter or Instagram’

DHAKA: Remember that awesome tweet from Oscar-winning, delightfully goofy actress Jennifer Lawrence?

Of course you don't! The 24-year-old actress may be of the social media generation, but that doesn't mean she's participating in the collective mania for 140-character deep thoughts. And she's going to keep things that way.

As she told BBC Radio 1 during a show visit, "I'm not very good on phones or technology. I cannot really keep up with emails, so the idea of Twitter is so unthinkable to me. ... I'll never get Twitter. If you ever see a Facebook, Twitter or Instagram that says it's [from] me, it most certainly is not."

Part of her reticence to sign up might have to do with the recent hacking scandal that resulted in nude pictures of her (and other celebrities) being leaked, reports today.com.

Morever, according to the report, she noted, "Because the Internet has scorned me so much I feel like it's that girl in high school, that I'm like, 'Oh, you wanna talk about her? Yeah, I'll do that... Take my hoops off, I'm ready to go.'"

Lawrence isn't alone in deciding to dodge social media — George Clooney and Brad Pitt don't tweet, but even those from a younger generation like Scarlett Johansson and Daniel Radcliffe eschew Twitter handles.

Radcliffe recently told Ireland's Independent that he steers clear for a specific reason.

"If you go on Twitter and tell everybody what you're doing moment to moment and then claim you want a private life, then no one is going to take that request seriously," he said.
