300 apps to provide govt services

DHAKA: The government has launched a new website for developing 300 mobile apps for the ministries and departments in providing government services to people easily.

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak on Saturday inaugurated the website of National Mobile Application Trainer and Innovative Application Development Program at Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Bhaban.

Ethics Advanced Technology Limited (EATL) is implementing the apps development work with the partnership and collaborations of Bangladesh government.

People can share their opinions and ideas on the apps at http://national500apps.com.

Addressing the function, Palak said he did not know whether such an initiative was adopted by other countries but Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has adopted the approach.

He told his audience that some 100 apps would be inaugurated on January 12.

He also pledged to provide high speed internet at every unions of the country and to bring 34 percent people under broadband internet service by 2017.

Local and foreign experts will train 500 trainers from 7 divisions in 17 batches on developing the map of Android-based apps, development and testing.

Three hundred apps will be developed that would contain information on ministries and their services so that people can avail those services easily.

With joint secretary of ICT Division Shyama Prasad Byapari in the chair, BTRC chairman Sunil Kanti Bose, joint secretary of ICT Division Susanta Kumar Sinha, A2I project director Kabir Bin Anwar, EATL managing director MA Mubin Khan and EATL chief technology adviser Dr Rajesh also addressed the programme.
