DHAKA: Google announced its annual Year in Search, which looks back at 2014 through the collective eyes of the Web and offers a unique perspective on this year’s major events, top newsmakers and hottest trends based on searches conducted on google.com.bd.
Education related searches led the trending queries for the year while celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence led the trending people searches for the year, says a press release issued by Masthead on behalf of Google.
Head of Communications and Public Affairs at Google Zeffri Yusof said, “Google searches act as a cultural barometer that give us a snapshot of the major events, popular individuals and top trends that collectively made an impact on the life of Bangladeshis.”
He further said, “Google is where most people turn to for information and we hope the list we’ve compiled on Bangladesh searches reflects the national zeitgeist or ‘spirit of the times’.”
The top 10 Bangladesh’s Trending Searches of 2014 include SSC result 2014, HSC result 2014, World Cup 2014, Sonali Bank, Janata Bank, NTRCA, IPL 2014, Kick, Bang Bang and Eid sms.
The top 10 Bangladesh’s Trending People of 2014 are Jennifer Lawrence, Robin Williams, Suchitra Sen, James Rodriguez, Naila Nayem, Amrita Arora, Kriti Sanon, Akhi Alamgir, Arpita Khan and Neimar.
In addition to showcasing what people were curious about in Bangladesh, Google Search tools also offer insight into which topics captured the world’s attention in 2014.
The top 10 Global Trending Searches for 2014 are Robin Williams, World Cup, Ebola, Malaysia Airlines, ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, Flappy Bird, Conchita Wurst, ISIS, Frozen and Sochi Olympics.
Google reveals the Internet’s spirit of the times through an exploration of the over one trillion search queries in each year. In addition to year end Searches, which highlights the top trends, it also have several tools that give insight into global, regional, past and present search trends.
Google Search tools can never be used to identify individual users because it relies on anonymized, aggregated counts of how often certain search queries occur over time.
