Nationwide ‘Bangladesh Internet Week’ in August

DHAKA: A weeklong internet festival titled ‘Bangladesh Internet Week’ will be held across the country in August.

Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) and cell phone operator Grameenphone (GP) will jointly organize the festival.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at GP office in city’s Bashundhara area on Tuesday.

BASIS executive director Sami Ahmed and GP chief purchase official Asif Mohammad Towhid singed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations, said a BASIS press release.

According to the release, the internet festival will begin on August 24 with the assistance of the government’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) department.

The festival will gradually be held in three divisional headquarters.

Later, it will be arranged at the digital centers in 487 upazilas across the country, the release added.

The festival will feature e-commerce, web portal, mobile applications and local innovations, based on cell phone technology.

Moreover, workshops, seminars and roundtable meetings will be arranged during the festival that will continue till August 30.

BASIS senior vice-president Rusel T Ahmed, vice-president M Rashidul Hasan, joint general secretary Mostafizur Rahman Sohel and directors Ashraf Abir and Ariful Hasan Apu and GP officials Dilip Paal, Mahmud Hossain, Yasir Azman and Ishtiaq Hossain Chowdury, among others, were present at the signing ceremony.
