DHAKA: State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak said Facebook, one on the most popular social media, will be opened within a short time.

In reply to a query of reporter, he said this at the inaugural ceremony of National Debate Festival on Information and Technology at National Press Club VIP lounge in city around 11:00am Thursday.

In this program, the state minister said that 70 percent youths of the country generate new ideas. So, the youths deserve participation in making of the country’s policy.

‘Social media is a medium of placing arguments and debate. Through this, youths will be more logical and conscious,’ he added.

He said, ‘All the subjects of debate will be about technology. The sprouted idea of the young debaters will be presented to the Prime Minister after research and scrutiny’.

In the briefing, Palak said that the competition will be arranged on region-base after dividing the country into 16 regions.

More than 400 debaters from 130 universities will participate in the competition, he added.

The state minister went on saying, ‘Duration of this festival and competition will be nearly two months. There will be more than 5,000 youths to be engaged and participate in this grand event’.

Member of parliamentary standing committee on youth and sports affairs ministry Nahim Razzak also addressed the program with information and communication technology secretary Shyam Sundar Sikdar in the chair.

Secretary of Campus-to-Career Anjali Sarkar and Bangladesh Debate Federation president Sanjib Saha placed the outline of the debating competition at the briefing.
