DHAKA: The government and law enforcers have been keeping facebook activities under surveillance after reopening access to the social communication site after 23 days of closure.

Law enforcers already have arrested a person on allegation of publishing subversive contents.

Deputy Director (Legal and Media Wing) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Rumman Mahmud told banglanews that the government adopted the measure so that people’s life could be saved from threat by any online propaganda.

The government also hinted that the social media could face the same fate again if they feel any threat from it.

Earlier, the government shut facebook, Viber, Whatsapp and some other social media on November 18 following the Supreme Court’s verdict against BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury and Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Mujahid for their crimes against humanity during 1971.

Both were executed at Dhaka Central Jail on November 22.

Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan claimed that crimes have been reduced after the closure of the social media.

Information and Communication Technology state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak acknowledged the contribution of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed Joy who took initiatives to reopen the site.

Post and Telecommunication state minister Tarana Halim posted on her facebook page saying that the government temporarily closed access to the sites for the sack of the security of people and the state.
