DHAKA: State minister for posts and telecommunications Tarana Halim said that as many as 11.6-crore SIMs have been re-registered biometrically till Saturday (June 4).

However, over 11-crore SIMs have been re-registered by May 31 and over 38-lakh SIMs have been re-registered by the following four days.

The state minister made this disclosure at a meeting with representatives of mobile operators at secretariat in city on Sunday (June 5).

According to the last report of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), the total number of subscribers of six mobile phone operators is 131,949,000 in the country.

Post and telecommunication secretary Faizur Rahman Chowdhury, BTRC chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood, representatives of the mobile phone operators and telecommunication officials, among others, were present at the meeting.
