DHAKA: The operation Citycell will remain active for its users till September 16.

A High Court single bench of Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed extended the expiry date of Citycell till the answering date of show-cause given by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).

BTRC lawyer Khandaker Reza-e-Rakib confirmed the matter to banglanews adding that Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud moved for Citycell.

Reza-e-Rakib said the order came in response to a plea by the mobile operator for stay order on Citycell’s closure.

BTRC chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood stated that they issued the notice to Citycell on August 17 giving a month to response.

Earlier, BTRC fixed August 16 for the subscribers to shift from Citycell as the phone operator has Tk 477.51-crore due. Later, the date extended to August 23.
