GP celebrates ‘Digital Day’

DHAKA: Grameenphone (GP) arranged a ‘Digital Day’ on its premises on Monday (September 5) to prepare its employees and partner for the journey towards a digital future.

Through this event Grameenphone introduced many local university teams and startups working with advanced technologies like Robotics, Internet of Things (IOT) and Virtual Reality.

Grameenphone CEO Rajeev Sethi inaugurated Digital Day with presence of its Management team.

He emphasized on the change of mindset to become a Digital Service Provider and serve an increasingly technologically advanced customer base.

Local and international mobile device manufactures and GP’s IOT partners have set up stalls in the premise, said a press release.

After introducing 3G in Bangladesh, GP has started to transform the company to a Digital Service Provider. In the last two years the company introduced a few apps and services to help its customer to embrace a digital lifestyle.

These apps received good response from the customers and one of these apps Flexiplan, which allows GP users to customize their own packages to balance their data and voice usage patterns, is now in number one position on Google Play Store for Bangladesh.

Country Lead for Bangladesh and Sri Lanka of Google Fazal Ashfaq; Senior Marketing Manager of South East Asia Marketing of Huawei Liu Jingji; and Senior Consultant of Ericsson Moorthi Ramasamy and Alvin Ng presented three seminars.

Among the participants of Digital Day there were teams from Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, BRAC University and United International University (UIU) those showed their projects on Robotic and Green technology.

Technology vendors Ericsson, Huawei, NEC and Wipro came with their IOT and analytics technologies. Apart from them many start-ups and device vendors were also present.

GP with an aim to become customers’ preferred digital service provider is promoting the development of digital services and contents by local entrepreneurs.

Digital Day was arranged to give them a platform to present their concepts and products to GP employees.
