DHAKA: Information minister Hasanul Haq Inu has suggested formation of a national committee with coordination of information ministry, post and telecommunications ministry and the ICT division for efficient management of the Internet in the country.
Inu, also chairperson of the Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF), placed the suggestion at a view exchange meeting on Monday (April 24).
BIGF arranged the view exchange meeting on “Bangladesh Consultation on APRIGF 2017” at the seminar hall Bangladesh Press Institute in the city.
The view exchange was arranged as the preparation of participation in the ‘Asia-Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum (APRIGF) 2017’ to be held in Bangkok from July 26 to 29.
Hasanul Haq Inu emphasized on taking training program to create cyber law experts and the cyber police in a bid to keep the Internet safe.
He said that the draft of the cyber law will end within short time. Besides, the broadcast law will also come in the light within two months, he added.
The minister demanded inclusion of Internet as fundamental rights in the Constitution.
Chief executive of the Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) ANM Bazlur Rahman moderated the meeting, while secretary general of BIGF Mohammad Abdul Haque Anu, president of the Bangladesh Computer Society Prof Dr M Mahfuzul Islam, Syed Almas Kabir of the Metro-net Limited and member of the Internet Society Md Jahangir Hossain also spoke it, among others.
