Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (April 30) announced that the South Asian Satellite will be launched on May 5. 

Bangladesh is also a key part of this satellite. Modi said the satellite will play a vital role in enhancing cooperation and overall developments in this region.

Mentioning that his government is working with the theme of “with everyone and for everyone’s progress”, Indian Premier also said this satellite is an ‘important step’ by India for the development of the entire South Asia.

Indian Space research organization (ISRO) will launch the South Asian communication satellite (GSAT-9) using a GSLV-09 rocket from Sriharikota space port in southern state of Andhra Pradesh. Six countries of SAARC except Pakistan will get the benefit of communication and disaster management help from it.

The 2,195 kg mass of satellite would carry 12 ku-band transponders and has a mission life span of more than 12 years.

In November 2014, PM Narendra Modi made the announcement for building the Satellite during the Saarc Summit in Kathmandu.
