Smartphone app-based taxi service Uber is growing by double digits both on driver and rider side in Dhaka.
Uber saw the fastest growth of its users in Dhaka, in comparison with any other Asian city over last five months.
Uber was launched in Dhaka on November 22, 2016 with UberX, an everyday low cost option to hail an Uber taxi through the apps.
Later, it extended the service to 24 hours from December 5, 2016. The fares were also increased on January 23 this year to ensure sustainable operations.
Smartphone apps like Uber can help to use latest infrastructure, primarily private cars, more efficiently at no extra cost--enabling more people to share their journeys and by providing affordable, convenient alternatives to car ownership.
“We are committed to offer riders a hassle free transportation option in the city and create livelihood opportunities for drivers in Dhaka. There’s a real alternative to a world that looks like a parking lot and moves like a traffic jam, and we are committed to make this a reality in Dhaka”, said a Uber spokesperson.
