DHAKA: Bangladesh has been witnessing rapid rise in active internet connections as number of total internet users crossed 9 crore milestone in August. Of them, around 8.5 crore are mobile internet users while the number of mobile phone subscribers reach to 15.5 crore. 

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) came up with the survey on Thursday (Sep 20) based on data collected in August. 

According to BTRC survey, number of total internet users stood at 90501000 by the end of August. Of them, 8 crore 46 lakh and 85 thousands are mobile internet users, 83 thousands WiMax users and 57 lakh 33 thousands ISP and PSTN users.

Earlier in July, total internet users were 8 crore 46 lakh 87 thousands. Of them, 8 crore 29 lakh 12 thousands were mobile internet users, 84 thousands WiMax users and 56 lakh 91 thousands ISP and PSTN users.

According to BTRC data, the number of mobile subscribers in country stood at 15 crore 41 lakh 79 thousands. Of them, 7 crore 7 lakh 9 thousands are Grameenphone subscribers, 4 crore 61 lakh 32 thousands Robi subscribers, 3 crore 34 lakh 66 thousands Banglalink subscribers and 38 lakh 73 thousands Teletalk subscribers.

BTRC conducted the survey with data of active users (90-day period) provided by the mobile operators.
