DHAKA: Post, Telecommunication and ICT Minister Mustafa Jabbar said Information and Communication Technology (ICT) based contents should be included in primary education to buildup the young generation with proper knowledge of this subject.
Mentioning the programming contest for children, youths as a milestone of ICT practice, he said programming develops their merit and the field of creativity.
The minister made the remarks while addressing as chief guest at the award giving ceremony of National Children and Youth Programming Contest-2018.
The event was organized by ICT division of the government at BCC auditorium in ICT Tower on Tuesday (October 20).
State minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak was also present at the program as a special guest.
Mustafa Jabbar said, “Children should be taught on programming from childhood. Programming practice should start from early days of education. Our children are meritorious. Our primary school-going kids do not need any teaching for smartphone use. Thus we want to take them to a place where they will know about programming from early days.”
Urging children and youths to be prepared for the next century, the minister said, “In the forthcoming days, physical hard work will lose importance. Today’s children will be the programmer of future. To implement that goal in mind, the government has taken various projects and programs including establishing 43,000 digital laboratories across the country.”
Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) executive director Parthapratim Deb, Center for Research and Information (CRI) executive director Sabbir Bin Shams and BCC director Enamul Huq also spoke at the program presided by ICT division secretary Zuena Aziz.
To encourage children in ICT education, BCC and Young Bangla had organized programming contest for children and youths of 180 schools of the country from March this year. Laptops, certificates, books, smartphones and crests were distributed among winners in different categories of the contest.
