DHAKA: Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has lifted its shutdown order hours after access to 58 websites including many news portals was blocked on security grounds. 

The websites have begun to open following the fresh order on Monday evening (December 10).

BTRC’s Senior Assistant Director Md Zakir Hossain Khan told Banglanews: “The directives for closure of the concerned portals has been lifted. Now portals are open.”

“We received the directive to open the 58 websites. Measures are being taken in this regard,” Imdadul Haque, general secretary of Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB), told Banglanews.

Earlier on Sunday (Dec 09), BTRC directed the authorities of International Internet Gateway (IIG) and Internet Service Provider (ISP) to close down 58 websites.
