5G guidelines in Jan, to open prior deadline

DHAKA: The telecom regulator has formed a committee to make a plan and a guideline for introducing 5G mobile data services in the country, which is yet to be launched anywhere in the world.

The committee will formulate a comprehensive proposal and a guideline by January next year to introduce Five-G technology, said Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Senior Assistant Director Md Zakir Hossain Khan.

According to the BTRC, in the targets and plans of the election manifesto-2018, the present government promised that 5-G will be launched by 2021-23. The government has decided to launch 5-G internet services soon in line with the continuing development of telecommunication technology aiming to implement election manifesto.

The commission on August 4 formed the committee comprising representatives of the government, BTRC, representatives of the operators, to formulate a policy and a policy to implement the government's decision to launch 5-G services. 

The committee will outline the introduction of 5-G technology, potential waves, potential wave values and implementation timelines. It will also formulate a comprehensive guideline of 5-G internet services by January next year.

"Under the guidance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Information and Communication Technology Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy, it will be possible to launch 5-G services with the help of the Postal and Telecommunication Department before the deadline mentioned in the election manifesto."

The 5G internet service will change the digital environment and Bangladesh wants to take lead in this arena by deploying state-of-the-art technology.

The 4th generation technology was launched in Bangladesh on February 29 this year. Earlier, on October, 2013, the country launched the 3G service. The 5G technology is expected to be officially launched across the world by 2020.
