Dhaka Bank MD, CEO Emranul Huq passes away

Dhaka Bank PLC Managing Director and CEO Emranul Huq passed away in India early Sunday. He was 61.

Emranul, who was suffering from cancer, breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital Kolkata, an official of the bank confirmed the matter.

He was reappointed as the MD and CEO of Dhaka Bank with effect from 22 February 2022 for a further period of three years. Prior to this role, he served the bank as the additional managing director and chief business officer.

Emranul Huq had more than three decades of professional banking experience both at home and abroad to his credit.

He started his career with Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) in Dhaka as management trainee in 1986.

Before joining Dhaka Bank in 1998, he also worked at Eastern Bank Limited and Credit Africa Bank Limited in Zambia in various capacities.

During his long tenure with Dhaka Bank, Emranul served in various key positions which included deputy managing director for business banking, head of corporate banking and branch manager for various corporate branches of the bank, etc.

He attended various professional banking training programmes at home and abroad namely, the USA, Germany, Netherlands, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Pakistan, etc.

He was a “Certified Corporate Banker” and a fellow of the American Academy of Financial Management.

He was also a member of the Standing Committee on Banking Technique and Practice of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Bangladesh.

Emranul obtained his Bachelor of Commerce with honours in Management from the University of Dhaka and Master in Business Administration from the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB).
