Evening courses on amid protest

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY: The authorities are continuing evening Master’s courses although they closed the Rajshahi University sine die in the wake of students’ demonstrations demanding cancellation of the evening courses and fee-hike.

The students went on strike since January 16, demanding to cancel evening course and fee hike. Police and student wing of ruling Awami League reportedly attacked on a demonstration on February 2, leaving more than 100 people injured.

As a result, the varsity was declared closed for indefinite period but the evening course is continuing in full suing.

The university Business Studies Department source said the examinations of four semesters of Accounting and Information Management Department of Science under the faculty is underway.

Accounting and Information Management Department Chairman Professor Subhas Chandra Sheel said, “This is not a regular course, out of university academic program so the classes were taken.”

Assistant Registrar of Law department Akhtaruzzaman said that the admission process of two-year long evening course of the department is continuing.

The evening course on Business Studies and Law Faculty had been introduced from the session 2007-08. But recently the students have staged protest programs when the similar course started in Social Science faculty.
