Students of Dhaka City College and Ideal College were involved in a clash at Science Laboratory intersection in the capital on Sunday (February 9) afternoon.
Following the incident situation remained tensed in the nearby area, with sporadic clashes continuing.
The clash broke out around 4:00 pm when over a hundred students from Ideal College, armed with sticks, gathered in front of Dhaka City College. They reportedly threw bricks and removed the nameplate of City College, triggering a reaction from City College students, who retaliated by throwing bricks. This led to a violent confrontation, creating panic in the area and halting traffic on Mirpur Road.
Police intervened immediately to control the situation, and additional forces from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) were deployed in the Science Lab area to restore order.
Several students from both sides were reportedly injured in the chase and brick-throwing.
Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Ahmed Masud told Banglanews that the clash started around 4:00 pm between students of the two colleges.
"It may have stemmed from a friendly dispute among friends. I cannot confirm injuries, but the road cleared after 5:30 pm," he added.
