No campaign banners allowed ahead of DUCSU polls

Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election commission has banned the use of banners, festoons, and boards in campaign activities.

Chief Election Commissioner Professor Dr Mohammad Jasim Uddin issued the directive in a notice on Tuesday.

Despite the rule, several panel-backed and independent candidates had already put up banners in and around the TSC area, while the Jamaat-e-Islami-backed “Oikyoboddho Shikkharthi Jote” also hung festoons across different parts of the campus.

The commission has ordered all such banners, festoons, and boards to be removed immediately.

According to the notice, under section 7(a) of the electoral code of conduct, candidates are allowed to use only black-and-white posters, leaflets, or handbills for campaign purposes. Printing or displaying campaign materials on PVC, cloth, or any other medium is strictly prohibited.

Candidates who have already used banners, festoons, or boards have been instructed to remove them without delay.
