The ongoing full-day work abstention by assistant teachers of government primary schools has been suspended until June 25.
The decision was made on Thursday during a meeting between protesting teachers and Primary and Mass Education Adviser Bidhan Ranjan Roy on the fourth day of the demonstration.
Mohammad Shamsuddin Masud, convener of the assistant teachers' alliance Oikya Parishad and president of Bangladesh Government Primary School Assistant Teachers' Association, confirmed the development to Banglanews.
Masud said that a positive change regarding 100% promotion is nearly finalized. The issues related to getting higher grades after 10 and 16 years of service are being resolved and will be settled soon.
He said that the proposal to upgrade the entry-level grade for assistant teachers to grade-11 is already at the ministry, and an inter-ministerial meeting with the finance ministry will be held shortly with teacher leaders’ participation.
Officials urged the teachers to call off their protest and return to classrooms, discouraging prolonged strike programs.
