LONDON: Students, from Non-European Union countries including Bangladesh, who are studying and eager to study in Britain are going to face hardships in the future.

British Home Office has imposed restriction on admission of Non-European Union students in 60 educational institutions.

Most of the students, currently studying and wish to study there are from Asian countries including Bangladesh.

Of the restricted institutions, 57 are non-governmental colleges and three are universities, sources said.

The students will face visa and other economic problems as the decision to be implemented after the finishing of currents courses.

Immigration Minister James Brokenshire has given a statement in this regard at House of Commons on Tuesday.

In his statement, he revealed there had been ‘systematic cheating’ that allowed foreigners who could barely speak a word of English to stay in the country illegally, with corrupt invigilators reading out answers or allowing gangs of imposters to sit tests so the candidates could be awarded an English language certificate.

This is why the Home Office has restricted some 60 institutions’ right to admit international students excluding European Union students, he added.

Terming the ‘systematic misuse’ as a very sad matter, he has called in the ‘The National Crime Agency’ to assist in the investigation.

The declaration came after the Home Office was alerted to the student visa scandal only after it was exposed by a BBC Panorama programme in February.

Immigration Minister James Brokenshire warned the involved individuals saying the government won’t tolerate the misuse of opportunities provided for the purpose of education of foreign students.

As am example of the stern position of government in this regard, James Brokenshire presented a list of 750 fake colleges that have been omitted out from the government list that were allowed to admit foreign students.

Besides, the government is aware about 400 institutions that are keeping regular contacts with agents who supply fake certificates, he added.

James Brokenshire also said, in one extraordinary case, Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) detected an overseas university student who used to earn more than £20,000 a year despite rules preventing them from working more than 20 hours a week during term time.

HMRC also has found an overseas university student who has been working for 60-hour a week for the last six months, Brokenshire added.

Meanwhile, many Bangladeshi students have grown anxious about their plan of future higher study and insecured future life.

The restricted institutions are-
