10 DU students get Prof Sitara Parvin Award

DHAKA UNIVERSITY: Ten students of Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Dhaka University (DU) got the 'Professor Sitara Parvin Award' on Monday.

They were awarded for their outstanding academic performance in honors final examination in 2013.

DU Vice-chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique handed over the cheques as award money among the students at the university’s RC Majumdar auditorium in the noon.

The awardees are Mahfuzur Rahman, Asaduzzaman, Amina Khatun, Zakaria Khan, Ferdousi Ara, Nusrat Sharmin, Rashedul Islam, Zakir Hossain, Fazle Rabbi Hayder and Wasek-ur-Rahman.

Mass Communication and Journalism Department Professor Mofizur Rahman read out the Professor Sitara Parvin memorial lecture at the program chaired by Professor Akhter Sultana.

Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique at the ceremony advised the awardees to follow the honesty, efficiency as well as the ideology of Professor Sitara Parvin.

However, Professor Sitara Parvin, a teacher of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department of Dhaka University died in a road accident in the United States of America in 2005.

She was a daughter of former president Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed.
