DHAKA: A UK-based global processional accounting body Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) announced a substantial reduction in fees by over 50 percent for the students in Bangladesh.

The announcement came in a program held at the residence of British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert W Gibson in city on May 21.

The reduction in fees is part of ACCA’s new strategy on global thinking with a local perspective to get more Bangladeshi students and those in business obtaining industry in standard accountancy accreditation.

With over 10,000 students across the country this is the first time, ACCA made this announcement to stimulate the uptake of professional accountancy qualifications in Bangladesh and has developed this approach to develop more professional accountants.

Addressing the event, Robert Gibson said, “UK education has an excellent reputation internationally and ACCA has been providing global standard professional development in Bangladesh for many years”.

“I am delighted that ACCA is launching this new strategy and furthermore making it attractive for Bangladeshi students and professionals to pursue,” he added.

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, as a special guest, said, “Through ACCA many Bangladeshi students from all parts of the community are getting the opportunity to develop in the important field of accountancy. This is crucial to the future growth of the country”.

ACCA head of global delivery Richard Staunton presented the new strategy and detailed on how this approach in Bangladesh will encourage and support those undertaking qualifications.

The function was also attended by the key representatives from different education and professional development institutions, chambers of commerce and industry, and financial institutions across Bangladesh.
