DHAKA: Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid categorically said that the country’s all educational institutions have to submit their revenue statements to the government.

The minister made the assertion when speaking at a national workshop on ‘Payer Inspection’ at National Academy for Education Management (NAEM) auditorium in city on Wednesday.

He said that the government is currently spending Tk 7,500-crore as institutions inspection cost.

Most of the education budget goes to this sector, he added, ‘but this money is not being used properly’.

According to him, every educational institution earns money from tuition fees, donation and from several immovable properties. Even the madrasas earn a good amount of money by arranging religious sermons.

The government has no control over these earnings; even the institutions do not inform the ministry concerned, he said adding that moreover, the government spends a big amount of money to the institutions.

The minister said that the government will not take the earning money of the institutions.

‘The institutions will give their revenue statements so that we can see the proper use of their money,’ Nahid added.

Two new laws on education will be formulated to ensure quality education, accountability and the development of education process, the minister informed the audience.

Education secretary Mohammad Nazrul Islam Khan and secondary and higher education directorate director general Professor Fahima Khatun were present as special guest at the event.

DIA deputy director Dipan Chandra Sarkar presented keynote paper at the workshop, also attended by NAEM director general Professor Mohammad Hamidul Haque, education board chairmen, district education officers and heads of the educational institutions, among others.
