SUST:  Pro-liberation war teachers of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) staged hunger strike demanding removal of its vice-chancellor Professor Aminul Haque Bhuyan and trial of attackers on teachers.

A good number of teachers staged the program in front of VC Bhaban from 9:00am to 1:00pm Thursday.

Agitating teachers, after the hunger strike, declared that they will observe ‘full-day work abstention’ program on Sunday to realize their demands.
 
On the other hand, general students staged three-hour sit-in demonstration from 11:00am and then gave 48-hour ultimatum for removal of the VC.

Spokesperson of teachers’ movement Dr Syed Shamsul Alam told banglanews that their one point demand is removal of the VC. He also demanded trial of the VC bringing allegation of assaulting teachers against him.



He also warned that tougher movement will be declared if VC will not be removed within Thursday.

Mentioning Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL)’s attack on teachers on August 30, he said that they are demanding trial of mastermind, including all involved in the attack.

He also demanded judicial department investigation of the incident. 

On Monday, the SUST authority temporarily expelled four BCL activists over the incident.

Though BCL denied involvement in the attack, it has expelled three leaders of its SUST unit.

On August 30, teachers of SUST came under attack from alleged BCL members while staging demonstration demanding its vice-chancellor’s removal.
