DHAKA: Chevron Asia Pacific Exploration & Production Bangladesh president Melody Meyer recently laid the foundation stone for a new building for Nadampur High School near Chevron’s Bibiyana Gas Plant.

The proposed structure is five-stories high, and the construction costs for the first floor have jointly been borne by Chevron and some of its master contractors engaged during the Bibiyana Expansion Project.

This floor will house three classrooms for up to 150 students and a teachers’ common-room, said a press release on Monday.

Chevron will be contributing 68% of the construction costs, with the remainder being provided by eight Master Contractors, viz., Basic Engineering Ltd, Dipon Group, MAS, Mir Akhter Hossain Ltd (MAHL), Mir Traders, Pipeline Engineers & Associates Ltd (PEAL), Pipeliners, and Plexal Group.

Melody Meyer said, “We have had a long-standing association with Nadampur High School, from when the Bibiyana Gas Field was still being developed in 2006”.

“I’m glad I have this opportunity to congratulate you for your recognition by the Sylhet Education Board as the Best Secondary School in Nabiganj Upazila. To consistently achieve a 100% pass rate over four successive years is a great accomplishment, and it’s so gratifying to learn that Chevron’s support has played a role in your success.”

Also present at the event were Managing Director for Chevron Asia South, Brad Middleton; President of Chevron Bangladesh, Kevin Lyon; External Affairs Director of Chevron Bangladesh, Naser Ahmed; Abdul Munim Chowdhury (Babu), Member of Parliament for Habiganj-1; and Nabiganj Upazila Chairman, Advocate Alamgir Chowdhury among others.

In his remarks, Abdul Munim Chowdhury (Babu) said, "we have a large number of people in the community that struggles for basic socioeconomic needs; the social development initiatives Chevron has undertaken over the past few years are truly praiseworthy and have gone a long way to mitigate those needs. I look forward to Chevron building on the good work they have already done, so that initiatives like these can continue in the same vein in future".
