JU to open 3 new faculties, 4 depts

Savar: Authorities of Jahangirnagar University are going to open three new faculties and four departments soon.

The faculties are Medical, Engineering and Fine arts and the departments are Media Studies, Comparative Literature, Women Studies and Law.

JU Vice-chancellor Professor Sharif Enamul Kabir informed this at the annual Senate meeting Friday.

At present, some 11,000 students are studying at 27 departments and two institutes under four faculties of the university. The number of students will be increased with the opening of the new faculties and departments.

Some 70 senate members attended the meeting, presided over by the VC.

Pro-VC (education) Professor Dr. Mohammad Muniruzzaman, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Farhad Hossain, Treasurer Professor Dr. Nasir Uddin also spoke.

The senate passed the TK 77-crore budget for the university for the FY 2010-11.
