Shah Rukh Khan joins billionaire club with $1.4b net worth

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has officially joined the billionaire club, becoming one of the world’s wealthiest actors.

The 59-year-old’s net worth is estimated at $1.4 billion (£1.03 billion), according to the Hurun India Rich List 2025, an annual ranking of India’s wealthiest individuals.

This places him alongside global celebrities such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rihanna, Tiger Woods, and Taylor Swift, whose net worth Forbes estimates at $1.6 billion.

Other Bollywood figures on the list include actress Juhi Chawla, actors Hrithik Roshan and Amitabh Bachchan, and director Karan Johar.

Often dubbed Bollywood’s “king of romance,” Khan has spent more than three decades in the Hindi film industry, evolving from actor to entrepreneur, running the production company Red Chillies Entertainment and owning the IPL cricket team Knight Rider Sports.

“Khan’s billionaire status is driven mainly by his stakes in Red Chillies Entertainment and Knight Rider Sports,” said Anas Rahman Junaid, founder and chief researcher at Hurun India. Additional income comes from films, advertising deals, and reported global real estate investments.

Khan’s rise highlights the changing landscape of wealth creation in India.

Junaid noted that as the Indian economy matures, new sources of wealth—particularly in sports, entertainment, and intellectual property-driven businesses—are emerging alongside traditional sectors such as manufacturing, IT, and banking.

He compared this evolution to the United States, where celebrity brands, media ventures, and sports ownership now feature prominently among the ultra-wealthy.

While other Bollywood personalities made Hurun’s list, Khan’s wealth is far ahead. Juhi Chawla and her family rank second at $880 million, followed by Hrithik Roshan ($260 million), Karan Johar ($200 million), and Amitabh Bachchan and family ($183 million). In 2024, Johar sold a 50% stake in his Dharma Productions to billionaire Adar Poonawalla for $119 million.

India’s overall billionaire count has surpassed 350 this year, with Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani retaining the top two positions.
