DHAKA: The 10-day art exhibition featuring tiger-inspired paintings by artist Nazir Hossain ended on Sunday (August 7) at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in Dhaka.

The exhibition drew a huge attention amongst the art lovers and tiger enthusiasts.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor attended the closing event of the solo art exhibition as chief guest, said a press release.

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Bagh Activity organized the art show on the occasion of Global Tiger Day 2016 to raise awareness about conservation of tigers and its natural habitat, the Sundarbans.

The exhibition displayed an exciting array of wild cat-inspired artworks motivated by indigenous art forms and traditional folk motifs to depict the nation’s love and pride for tigers.

Artist Nazir Hossain, popularly known as Tiger Nazir, expressed his passion for tigers with brush on the canvases. He has so far created 30,000 paintings on tigers.

According to the release, the tiger population is critically endangered in Bangladesh, and raising widespread awareness has been a major undertaking of the Bagh Activity to straighten the government’s efforts to reverse the decline of the tiger population.

USAID funded the exhibition, directed by the Bangladesh Forest Department.

USAID Bagh Activity is being implemented by WildTeam, a non-profit organization working for biodiversity conservation since 2003.
