Chattogram recorded its first Covid-19 death of the year, along with 10 new cases in the past 24 hours, according to the Civil Surgeon’s Office on Monday (June 16).
The deceased, Shafiul Islam, 75, was a resident of Jorarganj in Mirsarai upazila. He had been undergoing treatment at the Mother and Child General Hospital for post-operative complications and kidney failure and had received multiple dialysis sessions.
After testing positive for Covid-19, he left the hospital on his own and later passed away at home.
Meanwhile, 10 new Covid cases were confirmed from 120 samples tested.
Among them, seven patients are from different areas of Chattogram city and three from various upazilas.
No tests were conducted in the city’s four public laboratories on the reporting day.
So far this year, 28 people have tested positive for Covid in Chattogram, with 22 of them residing in the city.
Chattogram Civil Surgeon Dr Jahangir Alam Chowdhury urged everyone to follow health guidelines and wear masks as Covid cases continue to rise.
