DHAKA: Thousands of people made a bee line for relief centres on Tuesday morning as the heavy downpour and resulting flood forced them out of their homes.

Although there were no casualties reported so far, more than 5,000 people from four of Pahang’s districts, Rompin, Kuantan, Pekan and Maran, were evacuated according to national news agency Bernama, reports Singapore’s The Straits Times.

A Pahang police spokesman said that the Sungai Charu bridge at Km28 Jalan Sungai Lembing-Kuantan, was closed to all traffic after the water level rose to a height of about a metre at the stretch.

Meanwhile, more than 4,700 people were displaced in Johor alone according to a Malaysia’s New Straits Times report.
