DHAKA: German and Japan Wednesday expressed their concern over amended Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) act passed in the ongoing session of the parliament.

German Ambassador to Dhaka Dr Albrecht Conze and Japan Ambassador to Dhaka Shiro Sadoshima expressed concern in a meeting with ACC Chairman Mohammad Badiuzzaman at around 11:30am.

Dr Albrecht Conze said, “We are concerned whether Anti Corruption Commission can discharge its duty independently after passing the law.”

He said as per the constitution, all citizens are equal before law and are entitled to equal protection of law but some provisions  ACC law are contradictory to the country`s constitution.

He also urged authorities concerned to review the amended law.

Two commissioners Md Shahbuddin and Dr Nasiruddin were present in the meeting.

Earlier on Sunday, the Jaiya Sangsad passed a bill amending the ACC Act, 2004 to introduce the controversial provision that requires the ACC to take the government’s permission before filing graft cases against public officials
