At least one person was killed and ten others were injured in an accident involving seven vehicles, including passenger buses, on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway early Sunday morning.
The accident took place around 6 am near Nimtala, as the vehicles traveling from Dhaka to Mawa were caught in dense fog, which led to a loss of control and triggered a chain of collisions.
The incident began when two cargo trucks collided, followed by a bus rear-ending another bus around 7:30 am, leaving one dead, and several people injured.
A subsequent collision between a pickup van and a private car caused additional harm.
Highway police and fire service teams quickly arrived at the scene to carry out rescue operations and clear the wreckage to restore normal traffic flow.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sagir Mia of Hasara Highway Police Station confirmed the matter.
He said the dense fog and possibly excessive speed contributed to the accident.
The injured have been transferred to the local health complex for medical treatment, he added.
