An army officer was killed and two other soldiers were injured when members of the armed separatist group Kuki-Chin National Army (KNA) opened fire in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban district on Sunday (Mar 12). 

The deceased was identified as Master Warrant Officer Nazim Uddin, son of late Shamser Ali of Ghaghatpara village of Rangpur Sadar upazila.

According to an ISPR press release, the incident occurred around 1pm on Sunday when the group opened fire on an army patrol team in the area, leaving Nazim dead on the spot and two other solders injured.

The injured army soldiers are being treated at a hospital.

Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed has expressed his deep grief over the death.
