A traffic sergeant was killed after a private car ran over him in Chattogram's Halishahar area on Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Mojahidul Islam, 32, a sergeant of the Port Zone Traffic Department.

Halishahar Police Station Sub-inspector (SI) Harun Rashid told Banglanews that the incident happened around 10:30 pm at Toll Road area of Chattogram's Halishahar.

A speeding car hit Mojahidul Islam while he was performing his duty — leaving him seriously injured, he said, adding the injured was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

The driver managed to flee with the car, the SI also said.
