Two persons were killed when their motorcycle hit a tree at sadar upazila in Meherpur district early Tuesday.

The deceased are Rahidul Islam, 30, a member of Ansar and Bijon Hossain, 21, a college student. Both were residents of Dariapur village of the upazila.

Meherpur Fire Service and Civil Defense official Abdur Razzak confirmed the matter.

He said the victims were going to Chuadanga riding on a motorcycle early in the morning. On the way, the motorcycle lost control and hit a roadside tree in Chakshyamnagar Eidgah area, leaving them dead on the spot.

On information, a team of police and fire service personnel reached the spot and recovered the bodies.

Meherpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mainul Islam said the bodies of the two victims were recovered and were sent to Meherpur 250-bed general hospital morgue for autopsy. 

Legal action in this regard is under process, he added.
