Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said 100 per cent free and fair elections will not be possible with Electronic voting machines (EVMs) or ballot papers.

The CEC made the remark at a press conference at the Election commissioner's office in the capital's Agargaon on Thursday (April 6).

He said, "If the election was conducted using EVM, it was safe. The EVM or ballot paper is not a major challenge, the biggest challenge at the moment is to overcome the political crisis."

It will be up to the Commission to ensure all parties' participation in the election, said the CEC.

If all the parties participate in the election, the next election will be acceptable to the people, Habibul Awal added.
