Dhaka court dismisses DSA case against ex-Ducsu VP Nur

A Dhaka tribunal today (April 27) dismissed the case filed against former vice president of Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Nurul Haque Nur over "hurting religious sentiments of Awami League activists and its supporters and defaming the party with his derogatory comments".

Judge AM Zulfiker Hayet of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal passed the order. 

Cyber Tribunal public prosecutor Mohammad Nazrul Islam Shamim confirmed the matter. 

Earlier on April 19, 2021, singer Eleyas Hossain filed the case with Paltan Police Station under the Digital Security Act (DSA) against Nur for his comments during a Facebook live session on April 14 the same year.

According to the case statement, the accused Nurul Haq Nur came on facebook live on 14 April 2021 and made “offensive, false, defamatory and provocative statements” against Awami League leaders and activists. It said his words also hurt religious sentiment and values.
